Pellegrini clanger: I love managing Manchester UNITED
After leading Manchester City to League Cup glory on Sunday afternoon, it appears the excitement of winning a first trophy in European football all got a bit too much for Manuel Pellegrini.
City's Chilean manager was interviewed by the BBC on the Wembley turf after second-half goals from Yaya Toure, Samir Nasri and Jesus Navas had given his side a 3-1 win over Sunderland.
However, while revelling in his feat, Pellegrini also suffered an unfortunate slip of the tongue.
As you can see in the video below (at 1m 20s), Pellegrini accidentally told the BBC how much he loved managing Manchester UNITED.
"I love pressure," he said. "To manage a big team as Manchester United and to have [lots of] competitions is very good."
It is not the first time a prominent City individual has made the mistake: much maligned former chief executive Garry Cook once said at a club event that “I’d like to welcome Uwe Rosler into the Manchester United Hall of Fame.”
Cook was subsequently booed by supporters. However, City fans are likely to be more forgiving of Pellegrini, who has assembled a fantastically entertaining team which could yet secure an unprecedented quadruple.
Still, he might be wise to practice saying 'Manchester CITY' out loud a few times...
