£200m to rebuild United

Manchester United will spend big in the summer after posting successful financial results; Barcelona are still tracking David Luiz; and Fernando could snub Manchester City for one of their rivals - here are the main stories making headlines in today's newspapers.

United to splash cash in overhaul of teamManchester United are planning a summer of heavy spending in the transfer market after the club's latest financial results showed another "hefty jump" in commercial revenues in the second half of last year, reports The Independent. United’s chief executive Ed Woodward revealed United intend to step up their transfer activity "in a way we perhaps haven’t seen in recent years", although he added that does not necessarily mean signing a large number of players. The Daily Mirror puts a figure on the transfer kitty to be made available to Moyes - £200m - although that amount had already been reported by other newspapers earlier this month.
Paper Round's view: With so many players on their way out of Old Trafford in one form or another at the end of the season- Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs to name just a few - United will certainly need to invest heavily to replace the lost bodies. But it will be encouraging for United fans to hear that their focus will be on quality, not quantity. All that remains is for David Moyes and his staff to identify and then convince those top targets to a club potentially without the lure of Champions League football. And that might be a big ask.
