Liga - Diego Costa on target as Atletico maintain title push

La Liga, Estadio Vicente Calderon - Atletico Madrid 3 (Garcia 3, Diego Costa 4, Godin 74) Real Valladolid 0.

Diego Costa scored as Atletico Madrid returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory over relegation-haunted Real Valladolid at the Vicente Calderon.
Diego Simeone's team had lost twice to Real Madrid in both legs of the Copa del Rey while they were humbled by Almeria in their last league outing, but this was a bit more like it as they more of less put the match to bed in the opening four minutes.
The visiting side were left marking fresh air when Raul Garcia accepted Gabi's short free-kick before slamming the ball into the corner of the net with Diego Marino left with no chance on three minutes.
Marino was at fault for the second goal as he needlessly came charging off his line enabling Diego Costa to lob him to give Atletico a 2-0 lead a minute later.
Atletico were the fastest team to go two goals ahead in a La Liga game since Real Sociedad face Sporting in January 2012, who managed the feat in three minutes.
The visiting side struggled to cut open Atletico and conceded for a third time when Diego Godin benefited from more haphazard defending as he rose to power a header beyond Marino for a third Atletico goal from Diego's corner with 16 minutes remaining.
The home side also hit the bar in the second period with Raul Garcia seeing a header come back off the bar from a Koke corner with Marino beaten.
